How to Better (howtobetter.life) is a practical “life operating system”. We collect small things worth doing to be more prepared in life, across health, money, digital safety, work, home and emergencies, and turn them into checklists that say clearly how long each takes, what it costs and how strong the evidence is.
We are not an inspirational-quotes site. The goal is to help you know what to do next, and to do it one step at a time.
How Life Readiness is calculated
Life Readiness shows how much of what matters you have already prepared. It does not measure how good your life is, and it is never compared with anyone else.
- Done (DONE) = 1 point
- Planned (TODO) = 0.4 points — intending to do it counts too
- Not set = 0 points
- Not relevant to me (SKIPPED) = left out of the calculation entirely
The score is based on the Life Check items and every item you have set a status for, divided by the number of items that apply to you, and shown as a percentage, both overall and by category.
Evidence-based, and versioned
Every checklist states how strong its evidence is (strong, moderate, limited, expert consensus or not yet reviewed), with references and the date it was last reviewed. Content is stored as versions whenever it is edited or reviewed, so changes can be traced back.
